Nacho Cheese Fillet-O-Fish

Ever since I saw the McDonald's poster at a bus stop, showing all their $5 Extra Value Meal, I have the urge to try out their new Nacho Cheese Fillet-O-Fish. And I finally tried it. After... 3 days. Haha...

This is the poster that I saw. Ever since that day, I saw TV commercials of their Everyday $5 Extra Value Meals. However, only the Double Cheeseburger kept appearing on the TV. I wonder if they have commercials for the other three $5 EVM?

With all anticipation, feeling hungry and with a little shivering from hunger and excitement to have a mouthful of cheesy taste, I have a Nachos Cheese Fillet-O-Fish in my hands.

I opened up the bread and to my disappointment, there was very little nachos cheese in it. It almost seems as if the nachos cheese got into my Fillet-O-Fish accidentally and not deliberately (It looks like there is alot of cheese, especially with the lettuce's messy arrangement, but there is really very little). Giving it the benefit of the doubt, I took a bite after another. Halfway through, I thought to myself that I should have just bought the original Fill-O-Fish. Yes. I am very disappointed. There isn't the mouth full of nacho cheese taste in any bite that I was expecting...

I will stick to the original Fillet-O-Fish next time.

Not too sweet, and with the caramelized compound chips and caramelized sugar sauce, the ice cream is even more flavourful. While the promotion is still on, get two tubs of King's Grand Ice Cream and share the delicious ice cream with your friends and family for desserts after your reunion meal.

    The Wine Company

Lunch date with girlfriends on a Saturday afternoon at The Wine Company. We were at the branch located on 26 Evans Road. The place is very suitable for a relaxing day. There were only three groups of us at the place that day.

    Their menu is Christmas themed.

Fried Chicken Wings $6.20 - marinated chicken wings, lemon and chilli sauce - Tasty, crispy, juicy wings for sharing.

Sous Chef Pizza $7.50 - choice of ham & pineapple or parma & arugula or shitake and button mushroom - and we chose the safest, ham & pineapple = hawaiian. It a small, tasty, thin crust pizza.

Char Kway Teow $7.50 - prawns, egg, chinese sausages, pork lard, sambal, bean sprouts and cai xin - It's spicy and it's tasty. Flavourful.

Prawn Linguine $15.00 - linguine al dente with pesto, prawn, pine nuts and cherry tomato - I find the noodles a little too hard though. But it's the must-order dish for one of my girlfriends.

Teriyaki Chicken $15.50 - pan fried with sesame seeds in teriyaki sauce served with broccoli, carrots, cauliflower and mashed potatoes

Eggs Benedict $12.00 - muffins topped with parma ham, poached egg drizzled over with hollandaise sauce - Love the sauce, but pretty average for the rest of it.

Chocolate Molten Lava Cake $12.80 - Absolutely love this. Thick chocolate simply oozes out from the cake.

And our little unofficial gift exchange and souvenirs from New Zealand and Taiwan.

There is a 30% discount for mains, excluding the Eggs Benedict. I would not mind coming back for a laid back afternoon, for some chit chat over a glass of wine. Though, this outlet is pretty out of the way. It is about 15 minutes walk from the Botanic Gardens MRT.

    There is no service charge.

    The Manhattan Fish Market

Just this Tuesday, I tagged along CF and joined her in a food tasting session at The Manhattan Fish Market located in Marina Square. MFM is introducing a new menu to its patrons soon. Check out this long post of food photos below. (pardon me on some of the badly taken photos)

Sunset by The Bay $6.00 - There is nothing more relaxing than sipping on our Earl Grey tea mixed with peachy fruit bites, as the beautiful crimson sun dips into the deep blue ocean. - I like this cooler. Sweet with a tinge of flavour and it's hydrating.

Tex Mex Mussels $5.95 - A Classic recipe from old Mexico and Texas. Delicious sauteed mussels with garlic and capsicum with a touch of spice.

Quad Delight $13.95 - Can't decide what to have and want a piece of everything? Now you can have the 4 fin-tastic starters with our Quad Delight with fried country mushroom, fried calamari, cranberry coleslaw and chilled seafood mix.

Citrus Mesclun Salad with Cajun Chicken $9.95 - The salad that's never a side dish. Enjoy grilled Cajun chicken breast on a bed of mesclun salad for a light but hearty meal. - I like the combination of the cranberry bits and nuts, as they add on to the taste of the tasty chicken and greens.

Pepper Mayo Salmon Burger $13.95 - Gently poached salmon fillet in a delicious stock to retain its natural goodness while giving it an amazing flavour. Topped with a sunny side up and drizzled with pepper mayo, it is surely worth the gazillion bites.

Citrus Baked Seafood $15.95 - An assortment of dory fish, baby octopus and scallops baked with a tangy marinade with garden herbs.

Calamari Mussels Chicken (CMC) $17.95 - Delicious chicken tenders, grilled calamari and sambal mussels with a side of chips, hot veggies and Garlic Herb rice. Who says you can't have the best of both poultry and seafood?

Grilled Salmon with Black Pepper Sauce $16.95 - Served with ultra smooth mashed potato and veggies

Manhattan Velvet Cake $5.90 - This gem melts in your mouth with every bite conveying a lingering "velvety" sweetness. - In between the velvet cake, there's a layer of yellow, pineapple flavoured layer. A very fresh fruity taste, and with the scoop of icecream and cranberry bits, a delicious dessert after a hearty meal.

Sizzling Pineapple Cake with Vanilla Sauce $8.90 - Moist pineapple cake with an unusual twist of vanilla sauce, the perfect sweet course to end your meal. - In between the pineapple cake, there's a layer of cream cheese. With the melted caramel on top, the entire dessert is very flavourful. Delicious.

    W39 Casual Dining

A cosy cafe located off West Coast Road. I was a little surprised when friend recommended to come here for the brunch gathering. Fact that I am more of a Westie, but did not know of a gem.

The cafe is pretty crowded when I reached. The others had already reached. With no prior reservations, they got a table pretty quickly. The prices are quite reasonable, check out their menu online. I like the Braised Pork Cheek Gruyere Panini $13 that my friend ordered. Very tasty.

The only downside of the place is that the service is pretty slow. The waiting time for the arrival of the food is quite lengthy. I noticed the two ladies from another table, went in to select their cakes, and it was after sometime, the waiter then came out with their drinks and cakes.

    Friday the thirteenth

It's a girls night out. First part of the night, chilli crabs feast at Master Crab Ghim Moh. We had 2 small chilli crabs, 1 veggie, 10 buns and 3 rice. Our bill came up to $93.

Next was ice cream at The Daily Scoop Holland Village. The place is pretty packed when we first arrived, and we were lucky to get a table. The girls had icecream while I had Mocha. Sadly the place closes too early while we were still in the middle of our #jetxywedding discussion.

    Health drink. 馬草汁

Daddy boiled the plant to make the drink. A 民间药方. He heard from old neighbours that this drink helps to detox, relieve swelling, expel pus, relieve intestinal abdominal pain and more (some I not too sure how to translate).

    治铜钱癣,发丹,杀虫,化腐肉 ,清热解毒,消肿排浓,用于肠胃腹痛,臃肿疮毒,产后瘀阻腹痛。

    Some other health benefits:
Generate healthy red blood cells, improves immune system, reduce cholestrol, prevent heart diseases, prevent intestine related diseases, lowers high blood pressure, prevents dementia and more.

This is good for me, especially on the swelling part. My family has history on swelling. Worried.

A photo a day : Honey Baked Chicken Wings

Tonight's dinner, honey baked chicken wings. I followed this online recipe, though I'm short of the sesame oil: http://www.noobcook.com/honey-baked-wings/2/. Taste not too bad, but of course there is still room for improvement.

    Big Mama Korean Restaurant

A gathering with ex colleagues at Big Mama Korean Restaurant. I just did a quick count and surprise surprise.. I have known some of them for almost 9 years. This happy and fun bunch of people were people from my first job.

Big Mama Korean Restaurant is located on 2 Kim Tien Road, a short 6 minutes walk from Tiong Bahru MRT. Based on the 2 who live nearby, this shop is always bustling with people every night.

We got started with 6 side dishes, refillable. I like the lotus roots side dish. Very crunchy.

Haemul Buchu Jeon - Pancake with cut chives and seafood. The cute waitress helped us sliced the pancakes into pieces for easy eating. Prawns are fresh, pancake thickness is just nice.

Haemul Kimchi Jeon - This pancake is different in taste. Though the ingredients are similar.

Dakgalbi Spicy Grilled Chicken - this is delicious. The chicken chunks are tender and chewy. The chilli sauce is a little too spicy for me (I do not really take spicy). There are rice cake and vegetables in the pot too.

After we finished the Grilled Spicy Chicken ingredients, we had rice stir fried into the remaining sauce to get fried rice. It is delicious.

After the heavy lunch, we headed to Kayes's place to visit his new flat and newborn, Baby Aidan. He's sooooo adorable. I love his place. The view is terrific. We can see RWS and the sea south of Singapore.

Kayes treated us to cupcakes from Plain Vanilla. Pretty looking ones. Tasty too. Although it's a little too sweet for me and the other guys. Great for sweet toothed.
